In the heart of Le Marche and close to Umbria, named in 2020 world 2nd best region to explore by Lonely Planet.
The global travellers communities are starting to realise about the wonders of our land. But Le Marche still offers untouched beauty and life that goes on at the same pace as many years ago. Canapegna is located in an ideal spot to reach a very diverse range of hidden gems. Don’t call them ‘attractions’, they are just the places where we live.
If you ever manage to get a break from the pampering comfort of Canapegna, these are a few options for you, all within approximately an hour’s drive.
Needless to say, just ask us for details, suggestions, and help to organise an unforgettable day out!
Fabriano is the closest town, just a 10 minute drive, where you can find services such as supermarkets, restaurants, and a cinema. Its location on the main highway and rail line from Rome to the Adriatic makes it well connected and easy to reach.
Quite handy for our guests, but a bit reductive to describe it like that: apart from the impressive medieval town centre and the world class production of 'salame', Fabriano saw the start of paper production in Europe in XIII century, which you can learn about in an immersive hands on experience in the paper museum (museo della carta). Here the technique of Filigrana was invented - still used for high quality banknote paper, as well as the most prestigious paper for artistic use.
Almost forgetting... in the month of June Fabriano dress up in medieval costumes for a historical re-enactment made of games, parades, medieval inns, flower made 'paintings', tournaments, and more.
Ah, and did we mention Fabriano was named Creative City in 2019 by Unesco?
A mind-blowing unique experience immersed in a world of stalactites, stalagmites, underground lakes, and concretions that seem to come alive when you walk by. Simply impossible to describe, a sort of wonderland that made it first in the ranking of top attractions of the area according to Lonely Planet.
For the most adventurous it is possible to book a guided tour off the tourist path for a real speleological mission in direct contact with the caves!
Above the ground level the scenery is not any less intriguing, with churches, temples and villages perfectly blended with the mountains. Look for Genga and Pierosara for example.
Narrow alleys coloured with flowers hanging from the balconies, majestic squares with religious and political powers challenging each other in architecture, cobblestone streets and stones walls... and around the corner probably the best meal you have ever had.
There are plenty of opportunities to discover new treasures at a short distance from Canapegna:
There is a promontory near Ancona (the regional capital of Le Marche), called 'Il Conero'.
On the north side of Conero you will find Ancona and Senigallia beaches: these are great for families as the sea water temperature is warm, and the sea is shallow a long way out.
If you fancy a wilder landscape head south to Sirolo, Portonovo, Numana; these villages offer breathtaking view of the sea, as well as a very attractive town centre.
Urbino (ca.80 min): Proudly part of the Unesco World heritage sites, was a crucial spot for artists and scholars development in the 15th century. Discover the pictoresque steep streets in the city center, breath the Renaissance atmosphere, and contemplate the splendor of Palazzo Ducale.
Not everybody is able to lay down, enjoy the sun, and taste a bit of Italian 'dolce far niente'. Good news, there is something for you too.
Hiking on the appennini mountains, swimming in its rivers, 'Go Ape' parks, horse riding lessons, and more are all easy to reach!
We still believe that a meaningful part of Italian culture is expressed by the local cuisine, that varies from region to region and that relies on the quality of the ingredients more than on sophisticated recipes. This makes most of the traditional food appealing for all tastes, including children's.
One of best way of discovering Italy is indulging in some traditional family run taverna; we can help you choosing if you want, and we have no doubt you will more than once think to have had the best meal in your life during your stay- and be amazed about the unbeatable value for money.
